About Me

My name is Letha Jayne. I am a professional artist, who is fortunate enough to live at the bottom of Hatcher Pass, near Palmer, Alaska, where I am surrounded by mountains and natural beauty. Traveling is important to me, so influences from other parts of the world, also, make their way into my paintings.
My earliest artistic endeavors began as soon as I could stand up in my crib, using food, or whatever, to draw with.
My mother was a big influence on me artistically, as she drew and painted herself. She let me explore art in some pretty atypical ways, including drawing on my bedroom walls. She, also, made paper dolls of each of us kids, creating fabulous clothes that we could not afford in real life. As we were very poor and had no TV most of our younger years, we spent a lot of time outdoors, and read everything we could. Sometimes, Dad would bring home rolls of butcher paper from work, and we would draw to our heart's content. As a result, everyone in our family had an artistic bent.
In 6th grade, my art teacher in Seward, AK taught me about perspective, which allowed me to make a turn toward more realistic art.
Thank you, Mr. Rule!
But, in high school, I got a D- in art...
Undeterred by this turn of events, I continued to create with whatever materials I had on hand, taking an art class here and there, but had no formal training until recently. I enrolled in the Mastery Program with the Milan Art Institute, after watching a friend who had taken the course go from being a fantastic artist to being phenomenal. I'm still working on "phenomenal".
Still, there are no failures in art, just experiments. Good or bad, it's all part of the journey.
So, come enjoy the trip with me!

I hope you will explore my site, and that you find something you can't live without.
